Lately, I’ve found myself drowning in a sea of oversized band tees and baggy pants.
Don’t get me wrong, I love this combo. But I loved it so much that I lost myself and completely lost my style.
I started noticing patterns. I woke up, turned on autopilot, and wore variations of the same outfit every day.
See: Mamamia Reviews Non-Family Fashion. The story follows the video.
I align with many different values and interests that all combine to form one big mismatched identity. My versatility and love for all things different is what I love about it, but lately I haven’t been showing off that part of myself at all.
I dressed like I felt like it. I was taking risks with what I wore and showing myself in a different way every day. I was uninspired.
The weight of the fabric of the oversized band tee was holding me back. I was on the verge of a style identity.
When I found myself caught up in this funk, I decided the only thing I could do better was participate in a dress up challenge.
Challenge: Using clothes you already have in your wardrobe, wear a completely different look to work each day for a week (work).
Day 1: “Elder emo has a job.”
Inspired by elder emo, this look is an ode to your young and angry self. Having just seen My Chemical Romance live the night before, it was clear that I was feeling pure, unadulterated nostalgia.
Is it me or do my moon boots look like part of the look?
I loved this look, I absolutely loved it.
Will I wear this look every day? No, I have to be in that mood. But do I always get inspired by it? Absolutely! When I put it on, I felt fierce, confident, and sick**. In fact, I felt a little more myself than I had felt in a while (you can see it, the laura on the inside is still an emo girl.) is).
Day 2: “Frocks and Socks”
i got inspired by us mamma mia An extraordinary frock (and one of the most incredibly dressed people I know), Em Gillespie, and down the road in dresses!
I never wear dresses Seriously, I only wear it once or twice a year for special events.
And when I dove in, head first to a cute polka-dot dress with white sneakers and white ankle-length socks.
I completely understand the issue with this.
I actually developed a pep in my step wearing such a cute and fun outfit that made me want to skip the office hallways and smile at people for no reason.
It’s not an atmosphere I fully connect with, but I love the happiness it brings to me.
Day 3: “Hailey Bieber/Clean Girl” look.
I was very impressed by his expression, “I’m going to the gym, drinking green juice, and being cute.” And I am here for that.
Okay then! I’ll admit that this outfit got a little too close to my usual style because of the oversized tee. And I slicked my hair in true Haley style.

This was easy – if not a little boring. I really wanted to pop outside every day, so I’m a little annoyed that I didn’t add a little ‘va va voom’ to this look.
I stand by the fact that a pair of knee-high boots like Haley’s will complete this look and give you the edge you need. I wish I could put my boots on at this moment! I recently broke my leg so I can only wear sneakers so imagine boots instead.
Day 4: “Inspired by Y2K”
I hate to say it, but this look was my least favorite. Is it because I remember wearing exactly this costume when I was 9? In fact, I’m pretty sure the khaki top I’m wearing is from the early 2000s…is it vintage?
I don’t really want to know, so please don’t answer that question.
I got a lot of compliments from people wearing this outfit, even though it’s not my favorite! People love the year 2000 inspired look of the moment. I also think I like seeing people try something a little different.
I can’t believe I added a Y2K butterfly clip to my space buns and forgot to take a picture. What was I thinking? ! Image: Supply + Getty.
The hair and makeup were insanely cute, and I’d do the space buns again, but the *almost* low-rise vibe isn’t my jam. I felt a little uncomfortable with this fit all day long and got pretty self conscious. This is the exact opposite of how clothing makes you feel.
Day 5: “Arty bae.”
This look was inspired by one of the few men I love, David Rose.
Alright, the shirt was oversized, so I was still within my realm, but look at the puffy sleeves! It gave an atmosphere that
I promise I ironed my shirt before I left the house… Image: Courtesy + Schitt’s Creek.
I used to wear something like this all the time. I strutted my damn thing and walked to work. I was very confident in my clothes. When I went out for a drink after work, I looked good in this outfit.
By the end of the five days, I had rediscovered my style.
The change in my routine reinvigorated my love of trying new things and shedding light on all the unused clothing that was gathering dust while I was stuck in my self-made hamster wheel. .
I can honestly say with absolute certainty that I still love all the oversized ones. But now, she’s even more radiant, confident, and a pinch of excitement.
Me, the week after the challenge.
